What types of coast-to-coast Direct Connect calls can I make with Nextel Nationwide Direct Connect service?

Nextel Nationwide Direct Connect service lets you make two types of Direct Connect calls:
In-market: You can travel to a different market and instantly connect with Nextel phone users in that area. For example, you can instantly contact a business partner traveling with you as well as the client you're visiting. There's no additional charge for in-market calls other than the Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes you use.
Market-to-market: You can make a Nextel Nationwide Direct Connect call from any calling area to any calling area. For example, when you're on the road, you can instantly contact a colleague back at the office. Or, while in your home market, you can instantly contact a friend who lives three states away. Market-to-market calls will be charged on a pay-as-you-go basis, or you can sign up for unlimited access. Market-to-market calls will also deduct from the Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes included in your plan.

What do I need to use Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect service?

Nextel automatically provides Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect service with your Nextel Direct Connect service. To use it, you need:
A Nextel phone that supports Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect service.
A rate plan that's provisioned with Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes.
Your contact's full Nextel Direct Connect number (Area ID*Network ID*Member ID).

I know all of Nextel's phones support Nextel® Local Direct Connect service. How about Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect service?

Nearly all Nextel phones support Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect service. However, certain models do not, including: b370, b470, c280, c370, i1000, i2000, i370, i390, i600, Lingo (L3000), m100, m370, m470, r370 and r470.

No, your Nextel® Local Direct Connect number is your Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect number. How am I charged for Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect calls?

You are only charged for Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect calls that you initiate. For those calls:
Calls round to the second.
Minutes deduct from your rate plan's monthly allotment of Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes.
Overage is $0.15 per minute.
The first person to press the Nextel Direct Connect button after 6 seconds of silence is considered the call initiator and assumes charges for the call going forward.
For in-market Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect calls, there is no additional charge other than the Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes you use. Overage charges may apply if you exceed your rate plan's monthly allotment of Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes.
For market-to-market Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect calls, you can pay as you go ($0.10 per minute per call participant), or you can choose an unlimited access option. With unlimited access, you are only billed for the Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes you use.
Unlimited Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect access: $10 a month per phone for the service. Minutes deduct from your rate plan's monthly allotment of Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes.

When you initiate a Direct Connect call to another market, you are charged for both legs of the call. Here's how it works for both access options. See Call Scenarios for additional info.
If you have unlimited Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect access, then you are only charged the monthly $10.00 or $15.00 flat fee, no matter how many calls you initiate. The minutes for both legs of the call come out of your monthly allotment of Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes. Overage applies.

No. The person who initiates the call is billed for the Nextel® Local Direct Connect minutes and (if applicable) the Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect charge.
However, if you press the Nextel Direct Connect button after 6 seconds of silence, then you are considered the call initiator and will be billed for the call going forward.

Go to MyNextel and select Billing Statements. Details on your market-to-market Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect® calls are displayed there, including the date, time, number, and location of the call.
