Firmware Update 2.3.0 for Sprint Personal Hotspot (PHS300S)
This firmware update provides enhanced features and functionality for your Sprint Personal Hotspot.

Key Feature and Functionality Enhancements:

  • Bounce page customization (text only)
  • OEM customization (can do branding without a separate product release at warehouse/factory)
  • Automated configuration save/restore during firmware upgrade
  • Open DNS for Sprint network
  • Additional modem support

Adds support for the following devices:

  • Sierra Wireless Compass 597U USB modem (GPS capable)
  • Novatel Wireless devices: U720 (GPS capable)

Special Instructions

Follow the instructions below to perform a firmware update via USB memory stick:

  1. Load the latest firmware onto a USB mass storage device (flash or thumb drive.)
  2. Rename the file to u_phs.bin (Strip off the date code).
  3. Plug the USB stick into the SPHS, the Phone Light will blink indicating it's reading from the stick.
  4. If the USB has a LED that indicates it's being accessed, it will blink as well.
  5. When the Phone LED stops blinking, remove the memory stick.
  6. The SPHS will read the firmware, update and reboot itself. It will lose Wi-Fi connections and power cycle.
  7. You can verify the firmware update took by logging into the unit and checking status.

Follow the instructions below to perform a firmware update using the router configuration pages via web browser:

  1. Power on the PHS300S and establish a WiFi session.
  2. Launch a web browser and browse to http://192.168.0.1
  3. Enter password to login into the router. (default password is last 6 characters of router MAC address)
  4. Click on link to access Personal Hotspot setup pages.
  5. Enter password to login into router Admin pages.
  6. Select Tools -> Firmware.
  7. Manually update by selecting Browse and selecting downloaded firmware update then select Upload.
  8. You may also select Check Online Now for Latest Firmware Version and download the file to your PC for update.
